| The Patrician is
a man of few foibles. Indeed he is the consummate ruler in that he has
no addictions, habits or weaknesses. Save one. He hates Mime Artists. It
could almost be described as a passion; the venom with which he hates
them. No one knows why and no one has been stupid enough to ask. As a
result the reason for Lord Vetinari's hatred of these apparently harmless silent
street artists stays, perhaps forever, a mystery. But hate them he does.
His solution to the problem is therefore, in keeping with the style of his Government, very straight forward. He hangs them upside down above the scorpion pit with a sign that says: 'Learn the Words'. So, here, for the first time ever, is an exclusive Iconograph of the Patrician's Scorpion Pit. Note that there are currently three scorpions (after the tragic death of Gerald at the hands of a plummeting mime) and that for some reason the Imp has painted the sign the right way up. It is, for obvious reasons, really upside down. The more observant among you might notice the mask lying on the flagstones, and the really really observant, you know who you are; you people who point out a single punctuation error in five thousand words of text (yes I'm talking to you Dr. Diana Bell), might even see the white gloves lying at the bottom! |
